8 Mile: Music from and Inspired by the Motion Picture is the official soundtrack to the 2002 movie of the same name. The album, performed by various artists, was released under Shady Records. The album also spawned a follow up soundtrack, More Music from 8 Mile, consisting of songs that appear in the film and were released as singles during the film's time setting of 1995
Though it's yet another in the long line of soundtrack sequels, from More Dirty Dancing to Trainspotting 2, 8 Mile: More Music From is a distinctly different record than its predecessor, and in one sense, much better at placing the listener in the milieu of the movie. Unlike the original 8 Mile soundtrack, which was much more along the lines of a modern soundtrack (with several high-profile features for the star and new offerings from everyone included), this one has only tracks from the mid-'90s or earlier. It's hard to imagine how the compilers could've done a better job.

The album was released under Shady Records, and spawned the hit single Lose Yourself. It also spawned a follow up soundtrack, More Music from 8 Mile, consisting of songs that appear in 8 Mile, that were released as singles during the film’s time setting of 1995. One of the songs was performed by 2Pac, who would be the subject of a documentary with a soundtrack produced by Eminem, who also produced a posthumous album by ‘Pac. Lose Yourself is the theme song from Eminem’s semi-biographical movie 8 Mile.
Elsewhere, things get more patchy. Potty-mouthed protégé Obie Trice couldn’t sell sweets without Em‘s endorsement, D-12’s ‘Rap Game’ sounds like it fell off the back of one of Bugsy Malone’s pedal cars and hello, Macy Gray? What are you doing in here? Leave it to DJ Premier’s Gang Starr, then, to right the balance. Battle’ is a great old skool scratch-a-thon and, along with Jay-Z‘s lazy ‘8 Miles And Runnin, provides an 8 Mile high. From and inspired by’ rap soundtracks are usually lamentable. This one isn’t quite up there with ‘The Wash’, but it works
