Rock Around the Clock was the third album of rock and roll music by Bill Haley and His Comets. Released by Decca Records in December 1955 it was, like the two albums that preceded it, a compilation album of previously issued singles. Most of the album's contents had in fact been previously issued by Decca earlier in 1955 on the album Shake, Rattle and Roll.
Shake, Rattle and Roll is the title of an early rock and roll compilation album issued by Decca Records (DL 5560) in 1955, and featuring music by Bill Haley & His Comets

Rock Around The Clock" first appeared on the charts on June 3, 1953, selling 75,000 copies and convincing Decca to pick up Haley's option. Haley then recorded a successful cover of the Big Joe Turner song "Shake, Rattle And Roll," and on March 25, 1955, "Rock Around The Clock" was featured in the movie Blackboard Jungle, which gave it a surge in popularity and prompted Decca to re-release the single. This time, the song surged to the top of the charts, entering the Top 40 on May 14, 1955 and hitting on July 9, where it stayed for eight weeks. Bill Haley and His Comets were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987. Unfortunately, he died in a fall months after he recorded it.
About Rock Around the Clock. Written by Max C. Freeman and Jimmy DeKnight in 1952, this song is one of rock and roll’s earliest hits and widely considered one of the first compositions to popularize the genre. It broke into proeminence playing on the intro to Blackboard Jungle, and was later the theme song to the first two seasons of Happy Days. What have the artists said about the song? Marshall Lytle recalled the moment he knew the song was a hit: We were traveling on the New York thruway from Buffalo to Boston to do a television show. I turned the radio on and ‘Rock Around the Clock’ was.
