Harry James And His Orchestra 1948-49 is a double album by American trumpeter Harry James with The Harry James Orchestra. The album consists of live radio transcripts recorded during 1948 and 1949 and was released in 1969 by Big Band Landmarks (Volumes X-XI). As bop surpassed swing by the late 1940s, James was surprisingly open to its influence.
Harry Haag James (March 15, 1916 – July 5, 1983) was an American musician who is best known as a trumpet-playing band leader who led a big band from 1939 to 1946. He broke up his band for a short period in 1947 but shortly after he reorganized and was active again with his band from then until his death in 1983. He was especially known among musicians for his technical proficiency as well as his tone, and was influential on new trumpet players from the late 1930s into the 1940s.
Stream The Complete Harry James And His Orchestra featuring Frank Sinatra by Harry James and His Orchestra feat. The first 12 tracks are in excellent shape for coming from 78's. The remastering to clear up surface noises doesn't degrade the quality of the recordings at all. There are a couple of noted exceptions, like track 13 the alternate take of "It's Funny To Everyone But Me" and track 14 the alternate take of "All or Nothing At All" (definitely get the surface noise from the vinyl). James was all too cooperative letting sinatra go to join dorsey before their contract was over. Nevertheless, both dorsey and james knew sinatra was going to make IT real big in bigband music and eventually a solo career.

Give me one dozen roses Put my heart in beside them And send them to the one I love. She'll be glad to receive them And I know she'll believe them That's something we've been talking of. There may be orange blossoms later Kind of think that there will Cause she's done something to me And my heart won't keep still.
