We Hate It When Our Friends Become Successful" is a single by English singer Morrissey released in April 1992 by HMV. It was released as the first single from his Your Arsenal album, preceding the album by three months, and was the first Morrissey single to be co-written with guitarist Alain Whyte and produced by glam rock guitarist Mick Ronson, known for his work with David Bowie as one of the Spiders from Mars.

Album/Collection: Your Arsenal. We hate it when our friends become successful, We hate it when our friends become successful. Oh, look at those clothes, Now look at that face it's so old, And such a video, Well, it's really laughable, Ah hahahaha etc. We hate it when our friends become successful, And if they're northern That makes it even worse and If we can destroy them You bet your life we will destroy them. If we can hurt them, well, We may well

All You Need Is Me (from Years Of Refusal, 2009). This sterling, no-holds-barred rocker from 2009’s tour de force Years Of Refusal finds Morrissey’s signature style of bare-knuckled romantic brawling refined to a uniquely hardened edge. Album opener The Teachers Are Afraid Of Their Pupils is perhaps the best example of why this record might be polarizing (and also why it’s great). It’s 11 minutes long, punctuated by a repetitive - some might argue punishing - sample from Soviet classical composer Dmitri Shostakovich’s fifth symphony, and is not big on laughs or bonhomie (first line, There’s too many people planning your downfall does not make one’s faith in humanity necessarily swell).

Released as the first single from the then-forthcoming Your Arsenal album in May 1992, it returned Morrissey to the UK Top 20 for the first time in two years, while a rousing live version closes 1993's Beethoven Was Deaf album in suitably rousing style.

As Morrissey put it very well back in 1992 in his song "We Hate It When Our Friends Become Successful". we hate it when our friends become successful. You see, it should've been me". It's hard not to constantly compare yourself to your friends, even when you know how different they are from you and how you want and need different things to be happy and to consider yourself successful and satisfied than they do. We use friends as markers for where we think we should be, what we consider normal, and what we think we want, when in reality they are not the norm, and what they have is probably not what we really want. This mindset is destructive both within the friendships that we have and within our relationships with ourselves.

I hate the fact that ALL the Morrissey releases promo wise look so cool and iconic and the liberties taken with labels etc etc>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>The problem is he is a vile camp singer and can't really sing, so you look at the records and wish there were great recordings in the tracks. It's so crass and annoying.

We hate it when we bought the 12" at the time and found that there was a much nicer version available for promotion.
