Inside Story is the eighth studio album by Jamaican-American singer Grace Jones, released in November 1986, her first with the Manhattan Records label. The album spawned the hit single "I'm Not Perfect (But I'm Perfect for You)". Having achieved a major success with the comeback album Slave to the Rhythm and the best-selling hits compilation Island Life, both in 1985, Grace Jones delivered her next album the following year.

Released in 1986, Inside Story was Grace Jones’s first LP produced by Manhattan Records and explores various music genres of pop, elements of jazz, gospel and choir sounds, featuring the hit single I’m Not Perfect (But I’m perfect for You). The album was hugely hyped and commercially pedaled so that the avant-garde artist was catapulted into the limelight as a fully-fledged mainstream pop star. If the quality of the album sleeve in any way correlates with the quality of the music inside, then the cover of Inside Story says all you need to know. The choice of Nile Rodgers as producer was not an unmitigated disaster, but the record sounds more like a collection of studio tricks with Jones tacked on with samples than it does an album with any substance. Unfortunately, she didn't remain on the label very long, even though this was among her better LPs and included a fine single in "(I'm Not Perfect) But I'm Perfect For Yo. There were rumors that Jones and Rodgers didn't get along, and perhaps they didn't, but the album wound up being one of her most commercially viable.
