The Hit Man is the sixth album by former Temptations vocalist Eddie Kendricks. The album was released in 1975 on the Tamla imprint of Motown Records. If Anyone Can" - (Kathy Wakefield, Leonard Caston) 3:22. Happy" - (Kathy Wakefield, Leonard Caston) 5:13. Get the Cream Off the Top" - (Brian Holland, Eddie Holland) 3:04. Body Talk" - (Frank Wilson, Kathy Wakefield) 6:41. Fortune Teller" - (Barrett Strong) 3:32. Skippin' Work Today" - (J. Christopher Fox) 4:35.
One she didn't write, "Skipping Work Today," is the best song on the album; Kendricks croons the daydream about calling off from work in a soft airy falsetto that's simply delicious. Get the Cream off the Top" is veiled eroticism, written by Eddie and Brian Holland; it's not one of their best, but managed to chart R&B. Wakefield's best song, "Happy," also charted, but would have been a B-side or remained an album cut on Eddie's earlier and stronger albums. The rest of the songs are C-minuses.
Fortune Teller, 03:34. You Loved Me Then, 02:32. I've Got To Be, 07:54.
