Svetlana: Chansons Russes. Audio CD, Import, May 21, 1991. Svetlana is an opera singer by trade, but she very successfully crosses-over to do Russian songs on this CD. She doesn't sound like an opera singer trying to do another style, she is Russian enough (even though her family is now living in France) to use Russian vocal stylings, so the CD sounds really wonderful. The folk songs sound like folk songs, and the Romances (art songs) sound parlor-sung. There are also some hauntingly beautiful songs (and a vocalise) from other parts of the former Soviet Union as well
