Mary Lou Williams (born Mary Elfrieda Scruggs; May 8, 1910 – May 28, 1981) was an American jazz pianist, arranger, and composer. She wrote hundreds of compositions and arrangements and recorded more than one hundred records (in 78, 45, and LP versions).
Digitally re-mastered two-fer containing the Jazz pianist's difficult to find 1955 LP a Keyboard History in it's entirety. Williams is showcased here in both a trio setting with bassist Wendell Marshall and drummer Osie Johnson on some tunes, as well as solo piano on many selections. As a bonus, we have added another complete album by the pianist recorded the previous year in Paris. All ten tracks on Mary Lou are trio performances featuring Buddy Banks on bass, and Jean-Louis Viale on drums.
