I thought of it because the cover includes the group’s name, the album title and a darkish picture of a white couple standing by the waterfront kissing. Vee-Jay was a relatively low-budget operation, so this simple, inexpensive cover concept is neither surprising nor problematic. Except that it would have been just as inexpensive, and more appropriate, to have the cover feature a picture of the Dells. Why didn’t it? Well, I wasn’t in the Vee-Jay art department when the Oh What A Nite cover was designed. When I talked with him several years ago, he preferred to accentuate the positives about his career, and the Dells’s career, of which there were many. They were in demand as a live act for decades. They placed two dozen albums and twice that many singles on the national R&B charts.
The Dells - Ultimate Collection Cd. Find this Pin and more on Music I Really Love by Jayda S. Tags. Stay in My Corner is a 1965 soul (music) song by The Dells. It was released as a single on the Vee-Jay label and peaked in the top 30 on the R&B singles chart. In 1968, The Dells rerecorded Stay in My Corner on the Cadet label and took the new version of the song to for three weeks on the R&B charts. This is the 1968 successful version. Bitter days may prevail, but just a kiss from you will make them sweet. I told him my age and where I lived and that I liked pasta. who thought I'd said more, was blown away.
3 people found this helpful. Up until the release of the the 5 Heartbeats movie, I'd always thought of the Temptations as the ultimate group in classic R&B. Then I saw the film and I was blown away by both the movie and the soundtrack. This was my introduction to the Dells.

The Dells are one of the finest and longest-lived R&B vocal groups in history, and what's most amazing is that they've done it with nearly all the same members - they haven't changed personnel since 1960. They were one of the very few doo wop outfits to successfully update their sound, finding their strongest commercial niche in the late '60s and '70s as a polished smooth soul harmony group. The Dells were formed in 1953 in southern suburbs of Chicago, specifically the town of Harvey, IL, where all the members attended high school together. The Dells' first album under the Miller-Stepney aegis, There Is, was a smashing success, spawning no less than four hit singles including an expanded remake of "Stay in My Corner" that topped the R&B charts and went Top Ten pop.
