Recorded at Sound & Vision, Dancing Dog and Sergay's Recording Emporium.
They released a split album with Blatz, known as the Shit Split (1991), on Lookout Records originally on LP and Cassette- a 2xCD version was released in the mid-1990s. In 2000 the LP & 2xCD were moved to Life Is Abuse. In 2008 Life Is Abuse ended regular operations so the LP & 2xCD was moved to its current home, Alternative Tentacles. The 2xCD contains both bands complete discography including the "This Is Why We Are the Drunks" split 7" with Submachine from Pittsburgh, PA and Filth's 1990 demo tape. Mike and Jake founded a band with Shoshanna Wheaton and members of Queen Mab and Talk Is Poison, called Fields Of Shit, who only recorded one 10" EP before disbanding. Jim moved back to Canada and formed a band called Tension, who released a CD called "War Cry" on Cargo Music/Grilled Cheese Records, and later joined the Exploited.
Both Blatz and Filth fall into this category, and their 1992 split album is evidence enough. On songs like Homemade Speed, the boy/girl vocal interplay and rattletrap sound of Blatz recall a ragged, budget-store X still living desperately. By contrast, Filth’s scorched street hardcore practically chokes on its own fury, coming off like an American Discharge or Exploited, righteous and dirty just like the name says.
The Blatz side ends with one of the most ridiculously magnificent testaments to unrestrained, alcohol-saturated, punk rock inhibition maybe ever recorded, the elegantly titled, "F S Up. The anti-authoritative motivation that got most of us into punk rock in the first place is delightfully condensed here in all of its anthemic punks-vs-the-world approach. Let’s begin with the Blatz side.
Lust for Glory, 03:29. Homemade Speed, 02:18. Night of Rage, 02:46. Violence As a Solution, 03:28. Banned from the Pubs, 02:27.
