Herb Alpert (born March 31, 1935 in Los Angeles, California) is an American musician most associated with the Tijuana Brass, a now-defunct brass band of which he was leader. He is also famous as a recording industry executive - he is the "A" of A&M Records.
This album, released in 1968, is probably the last great album by Herb Alpert & the TJB (other than "The Christmas Album" released later in the year). The Brass had been on a roll for a few years and Alpert's trumpet tone is noticeably a bit weaker, but the music was still grooving. Opening up with a driving version of "Monday, Monday", complete with a bit of a Dixieland feel in the middle, is a perfect opener. The tunes were great then, and even better now by today's super-lame standards of what is considered good in new music. Really, let's face it, the music industry has completely gone to the bog. Everybody downloads music for free and the record industry seems to be run by talentless people who sign groups of lawyers with instruments. They would like to blame file sharing, et. but they are ultimately responsible for their own demise. Who wants to pay a ton of money for swill.
With this album, Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass settle into their hitmaking groove, the once strikingly eclectic elements of Dixieland, pop, rock, and mariachi becoming more smoothly integrated within Alpert's infectious "Ameriachi" blend. There is also an assortment of pop, film, and Broadway standards of the day, all impeccably arranged by Alpert, whose production instincts grew sharper and surer with every release. The result is another highly entertaining hit LP, one that stayed at number one longer than any other Tijuana Brass album (nine weeks).
The name of the group, for this album, is "Herb Alpert's Tijuana Brass".
The music of Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass was as much a part of the '60s experience as that of The Beatles, Bob Dylan and Motown. Rare vintage record in great condition. All records sold are curated to meet the best possible standards. This is an amazing record ready to be enjoyed. Herb alpert/herb alpert & the tijuana brass - bullish new CD.
