Empiricism is the fifth studio album by Norwegian metal band Borknagar. It is their first studio album to feature Vintersorg frontman Andreas Hedlund on vocals and Jan Erik "Tyr" Tiwaz on bass. It was also the last album to feature Jens F. Ryland on guitar until his return to the band in 2010. The album was recorded at Fagerborg Studio and Toproom Studio during June and July 2001, and was mixed and produced by the band and Børge Finstad.

Empiricism is the fifth studio album by Borknagar, and their first studio album to feature Vintersorg (known as the frontman of the band of the same name) on vocals, along with the addition of Tyr on bass. This would mark the last album appearance of Jens F. Ryland on guitar until 2010.

Five discs down the road, Borknagar seems less like a Norwegian supergroup side project and more like a cohesive band unit, and not just due to the group's relative longevity and prodigious output, but also because Empiricism is such a strong outing. Unlike the somewhat experimental and disjointed Quintessence disc that preceded it, Empiricism is a lot easier to appreciate from the first listen onward.

Not quite to my taste but definitely a quality album. Empiricism is not a bad album, in fact it is rather interesting in terms of sound. However, the album does get rather same-y over time and sometimes one will wonder if he is hearing the same song several times.
