Face Value is the debut solo studio album by English drummer and singer-songwriter Phil Collins. It was released on 9 February 1981 on Virgin Records internationally and on Atlantic Records in North America. After his first wife filed for divorce in 1979, Collins began to write songs during a break in activity from his band Genesis with much of the material concerning his personal life. The album was recorded from mid-1980 to early-1981 with Collins and Hugh Padgham as producers.

I Missed Again is a song written by English musician Phil Collins. The song is basically about the intense anger and frustration Collins felt over his first wife, Andrea Bertorelli’s unfaithfulness and subsequent divorce. The idea behind the now famous cover for the album was born out of the thought that Collins wanted to show what was going on inside his own head at the time. He felt that a close-up shot of his face would convey the emotion he was going for. Many of the songs were inspired by Collins' first divorce. Other hits on the album are the up tempo I Missed Again, and the much sadder If Leaving Me Is Easy featuring Eric Clapton on guitar. Eric Clapton was also featured on slide guitar on an early demo of the track The Roof Is Leaking, but Collins writes in his autobiography that he was never satisfied with the outcome of that song at the time.
