Vince Vega vs. Mr. Shifter - Machine Life Music ‎(12").

The Music Machine was an American rock band formed in Los Angeles, California in 1966. Fronted by chief songwriter and lead vocalist Sean Bonniwell, the band cultivated a characteristically dark and rebellious image reflected in an untamed musical approach. Sometimes it made use of distorted guitar lines and hallucinogenic organ parts, punctuated by Bonniwell's distinctively throaty vocals.

mr shifter's track is the reason i got this record, sounds halfway between early b12 and Larry Heard's "alien" - the only problem is..the mastering, the sound of the mid-treble is extremely gritty (especially the low-res snappy snare), no matter which cart or pre i have used it takes some heavy eqing until it sounds digestible, this sortofmaterial is not supposed to sound like ben sim's hardgroove release..or could be just me..

Ratios is the track to play and thankyou to New Religion for pressing Mr Shifter's deep shuffling soul sounds on one whole side of this highly underpriced and underrated disc. I'm not sure if i am in awe of Mr Abstract's only vinyl appearance because i'm also in awe of the man himself or just the way he sounds on vinyl. This is a special record that deserves a little bit of recognition as does Mr Shifter's incredible DJing talent. The credit due is slowly coming his way this year as his residency at Bohemian Grove is getting him on alongside some heavy duty reputable underground names again, for everyone to see Mr Shifter mixing wax as it really should be mixed. Vince Vega's tracks are currently sounding seriously wicked too a bit of a Jus-ed Vibe but way before he was on the scene . "A" for early warmth . "B" for the next days light.
