Somebody's Watching Me is singer/songwriter Rockwell's debut album, released in 1984 on Motown. It featured the song, "Somebody's Watching Me" (with Michael Jackson on vocals in the chorus), as well as the top 40 hit "Obscene Phone Caller". After being kicked out of the house by his father, Motown founder Berry Gordy, Kennedy Gordy moved in with Ray Singleton, Gordy's ex-wife. While living there, the younger Gordy began working on some music.

The Motown brain trust came up with the name "Rockwell. Prince and Madonna were doing very well using one name, and inspiration struck when someone saw a photo of a Norman Rockwell painting. This was on the charts at the same time as "Thriller," which was the last single from Michael Jackson's famous album; both songs peaked in the US ("Thriller" at "Somebody's Watching Me" at in March 1984.

Somebody’s Watching Me was released in January 1984 ahead of Rockwell’s debut album of the same name. The song, with its blend of New Wave, R&B and synth-pop (alongside Rockwell’s haughty fake British accent), entered the Billboard Hot 100 on January 28th, 1984 at number 73, where it would spend 19 weeks on the chart and peak at Number Two behind Kenny Loggins’ Footloose. The album, Rockwell says, will blend pop, rock, hip-hop, R&B and country, but will ditch the voyeuristic themes of his past work. I always had the intention of coming back, and now I’ve learned all of those things and I have the wisdom of far more years, and I have something to say now, he says. I have unfinished business in the record industry.
Somebody’s Watching Me peaked at on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1984, and the follow-up single Obscene Phone Caller cracked the Top 40 as well. That was pretty much it for Rockwell’s chart career, and as a result the Somebody’s Watching Me album is quite rare. It’s never been released on CD in the .
