L'EP Blessing And Curse (Trace Elements, 1986) eccelleva in questo genere alla Sonic Youth grazie a brani assordanti, trascinanti, ipnotici e scorbutici come Hope Against Hope. Se You Were An Optimist, robotica e ballabile, forse reminescente di Talking Heads e Ultravox, rappresentava il trait d'union con la new wave, lo strumentale Where Have All The Flowers Gone, all'insegna di un incalzante boogie "ferroviario", puntava chiaramente in direzione di un nuovo, roccioso, modo di suonare il rock and roll. L'album e& forse persino migliore del precedente Hope Against Hope. A una prima parte piu& psichedelica fa da contraltare una seconda parte trascinante, veemente, robusta, epidermica. Ancora una volta la Band Of Susans ha composto una pietra miliare del rock post-minimalista.
