Coming on the heels of the massive success of the Power Station, Riptide packages Robert Palmer's voice and suave personality into a commercial series of mostly rocking songs that seem custom-tailored to be chart hits. The Power Station connection threatens to overpower Palmer's usually more eclectic musical interest, but with that band's producer/member Bernard Edwards handling production duties and members Andy Taylor and Tony Thompson contributing as well, stylistic similarities were inevitable.
Riptide is the eighth solo studio album by the English singer Robert Palmer, originally released in November 1985. The album was recorded over a period of three months in 1985, at Compass Point Studios in Nassau, Bahamas. The album charted at number 8 in the US and No. 5 in the UK. It was certified double platinum in the US by the RIAA in March 1996 and certified gold in the UK by BPI in August 1986.

Clues is the sixth solo album by Robert Palmer, released in 1980. It has a rockier, new wave edge compared to his previous releases. The album peaked at number 59 on the Billboard Top Pop Albums chart and No. 31 in the UK in 1980. The album also peaked at No. 1 in Sweden, No. 3 in France, No. 15 in the Netherlands and No. 42 in Italy.
Album · 1985 · 9 Songs. After nearly 10 years of making songs that should’ve been hits but never quite were, Robert Palmer finally broke through to the big time with 1985's Addicted to Love. An Otis Redding–style tune dressed up in a flashy suit, Addicted to Love became a definitive song of the '80s. The only downside was that its massive popularity eclipsed the other songs on Riptide, an album that's as muscular as it is textural.
