Chairmen of the Board is an American-Canadian, Detroit, Michigan-based soul music group, who saw their greatest commercial success in the 1970s. General Johnson (1941–2010) had a hit as the lead singer of The Showmen in the early 1960s, with the New Orleans rock and roll anthem "It Will Stand" and Carolina Beach classic "39-21-40 Shape".
Beach Music Anthology.
This album is an excellent representation of both Chairmen of the Board and beach music in general. Group leader General Johnson died on October 13, 2010 at age 67. At the request of General Johnson to keep the group's legacy strong, 38 year member Ken Knox continues to lead the group touring with members Thomas Hunter and Brandon Stevens and 6 musicians. Chairmen Of The Board & The Executives are asking everyone to Stay Safe. Friday and Saturdays Concert have been rescheduled. It’s intriguing that on the other side of the Atlantic the Chairmen of the Board are beach music icons, a sub-genre of R&B popular in the Carolinas, while over in the UK the group are more associated with Northern Soul, a sub-genre of soul based on the pounding Motown beat.
