Timothy Blair (January 3, 1967 – February 14, 2013), better known by his stage name Tim Dog, was an American rapper from the Bronx, New York, who rose to notoriety during the early 1990s with his debut LP Penicillin on Wax and the celebrated diss track "Fuck Compton. Tim had already appeared on songs with the Ultramagnetic MCs and went on to form a duo, Ultra, with member Kool Keith.

The album represented Tim's shift of focus, away from confrontation with the West Coast and concentrated on hardcore East Coast rap. The album contained a shout-out to Tupac Shakur whom Tim thanked for assisting him when involved in a potentially violent situation when touring in California. This is the only album that featured original lead vocalist, Mike McColgan who went on to become a fireman before forming his own band, the Street Dogs.

Timmy the Dog was my band before I moved to Melbourne. It was made up of me on piano and vocals, my brother, Dan Minchin on guitar, Josh Jones on bass and the great Gordon Ryder on drums. Dan and Josh also sang loads. Timmy the Dog’s one and only album sit was recorded in my house in Subiaco, Perth by Gavin Tempany. The whole thing took three days. The basic band tracks were recorded live (ie not track-by-track), then horns, strings, vocals and extra bits were added. It remains the funnest band gig I’ve ever played.
