Tears for Fears are an English pop rock band formed in Bath in 1981 by Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith. Founded after the dissolution of their first band, the mod-influenced Graduate, they were initially associated with the new wave synthesiser bands of the early 1980s but later branched out into mainstream rock and pop, which led to international chart success. They were part of the MTV-driven Second British Invasion of the US.

The Hurting is the debut studio album by the British band Tears for Fears. It was released on 7 March 1983, and peaked at No. 1 on the UK Albums Chart in its second week of release. The album was certified Gold by the BPI within three weeks of release, and reached Platinum status in January 1985.

This album has the best songs for Tears for Fears. Songs were made in the 1980's when I was younger, and even today, 35 years later, I find myself traveling back in time when I listen to this group, they had some really good albums. Heard these songs a lot when I worked over night hours while going to school at Auburn, they would keep me awake when I heard them on the radio before going home in the AM to my early morning classes. It has some pretty amazing songs such as "The Way You Are" (recorded between the time of "The Hurting" and "Songs From The Big Chair" and a nice song with Curt Smith on vocals), "I Believe" (my favourite song from "Songs From The Big Chair"), "Advice For the Young at Heart", "Woman in Chains", "Break It Down Again", and. of course all the classics along with a few extras.
