Delving further into the archives of British musician Michal Turtle, MFM 029 ‘Return To Jeka’ brings together eight previously unreleased works recorded between 1983 and 1985. Drawn from a larger archive of works the compilation highlights a fascinating period of material Michal recorded after the release of his only album. Working as an accompanist musician at the Laban Centre in New Cross at the time, Michal there met Jonathan Smart who was currently studying Dance.

Archived gems from Music From Memory as always expected. For the third time now from a based guy called Turtle who devoted his time in the 80s as a youngster to hoarding all sorts of hardware and just recording as much as possible. New age, minimal synth, futurism, tribal jams, cosmic jams, third world, fourth world, whatever - most of that typical, obscure, 80s goodness.

Delving further into the archives of British musician Michal Turtle, MFM 029 ‘Return To Jeka’ brings together eight previously unreleased works recorded between 1983 and 1985. While some tracks were produced with the idea in mind of a follow up to his album ‘Music From The Living Room’ which UK label Shout proposed but which would sadly not materialise, others were in fact demos written for student dance choreographies.

Return To Jeka collects recordings that the obscure British synth artist made between 1983 and 1985. The new album features eight previously unheard tracks, focusing on the period after the release of his sole LP, Music From The Living Room. This new compilation follows two previous Michal Turtle releases from the label, including Phantoms Of Dreamland, which mixed Living Room tracks with unreleased material. Music From Memory also has Uneven Paths, a compilation of "deviant European pop" curated by label cofounder Jamie Tiller and Raphael Top-Secret, coming out in March. Am I the only one who thinks the voice on 'Jovan's Island' sounds just like Charlie Bones???

Still waiting for my copy, and listening to it on the web. One of my favourite tracks is 'On the plateau' (B3) which I think it's pretty great, but it has some really super high hi-hats (I guess they're hi-hats) that are quite annoying… I really hope in the record that sound is more balanced.

great material, but for some reason my pressing sounds really bad, no dynamic range, very muddy. bad pressing? anyone else?
