Finally in the collection.Agree with the review below, Running The Family is total beast of a tune - quite unique and cinematic considering it could be classed as a jump up track. Epic sirens, a really catchy dub vocal, ultra cut up Think break and tons of bass - unfortunately quite rare and never played much. Possibly a little ahead of its time in its arrangement and overshadowed by more dance friendly tunes. As noted in the reply, Bryan Gee played it at Dreamscape 11 but may have had an airing elsewhere at the time. Big big tune.

Absolutely the BIGGEST tune when this first came out. I remember it like it was yesterday and its easy to do that (remember) as there was nothing really like it at the time with that reverse bass line. I live in the States, in the South to be exact and there weren't very many people playing Jungle/DnB in my area and since it was also pre-internet I didn't hear this record until the day it was released. My local store usually got in one copy of a record and so I picked it up for $8.99 (Score!)! This was a time when you bought records based on the label, you didn't have to listen to a Moving Shadow record before you bought it, you just picked it up as you knew it was going to be quality and this release obviously didn't disappoint.

As Shaneski mentioned this tune used to cause all sorts of damage. Remembering hearing Zinc stepping up with the Origin Unkown mix at Desire @ the Roller. That bassline on the original set the pace for others to follow and arguably was responsible for about 50% of UKG which followed a couple of years later. Truly groundbreaking, I hope todays generation can experience the kind of buzz and excitement that this tune created, but I very much doubt it!!! This one tune sums up what it was all about BITD!

absolute tune to this day mate ! - bit of a game changer really - the original mum doing the hoovering upstairs lick ! - i went to desire at roller express in summer 94 and Hype kicked off his set with it .....the place went absolutely fucking bananas ! - respect some gold memories on this - bless

Shaneski75 the original mum doing the hoovering upstairs lick ! Ha ha superb description mate!

The male vocal is from 'Gimme Mi Gun', not 'Poison Flour'..... BUT thanks to the contributor for solving the mystery of the female vocal. Much appreciated!!
Jake
Pretty weird how this got released without any problems despite having that long Seal sample for the intro yet Blame had to pull the 3 second short Seal vocals off Music Takes You...

Info from Lee and Warren: Dread Bass was made in 4 hours and obviously we didn't know how big the track was going to be due to the short amount of time it took to start and complete the track. And when the track was finished, the first time we heard it we wasn't pleased at the crowd didn't react too well to this new tune as it was maybe a little different.

Timestretched dread business. That slow attack bass and the old akai timestretched samples are gold. This tune was hudge! still is.

Rob Playford's version is wicked...almost sounds like it should be the original
White_Nigga
not at all. Its the best remix but its boring compared to the original IMO

#1 JUNGLE/DRUM & BASS TUNE EVER!!! well, atleast in my book. i remember when it came out. Danny Breaks played in an old Chicago marble warehouse. 'Original Boom' was the name of the event. when the bassline drops, you can literally see the sine-waves floating across the room!!! tune starts off with an angelic intro of synths, which is the sample from Seal's "Show Me." then with little clock-like tinks of drums. an ominous time-stretched vocal anounces, "WHHHAAAT THE TIIIME YOU HAAAVE FI DREEAD!?!" .....then a gun shot breaks the silence and the expanded, hollow bassline sound drops & drops very hard. during this era, this bassline was new, raw & fresh. one of the first, if not the first tune to use such a stretched bassline like that. sprinkles of a female vocal claiming something like, "the burning light..." during the breakdown. not sure of that sample. MUST HAVE in your collection from the kings of B2B crew.

big tune!

Obviously 'Dread Bass' is a well know tune but 'Running in the Family' is an abosolute stormer! Not that typical of Moving Shadow releases a the time in the way it uses very ragga vocals that would sound more at home on a label such as Jungle Slam or Fist2Fist etc. Not sure it it was played back in the day or why it did not get an official release but overall an excellent record.

Only ever heard Bryan Gee play it on Dreamscape 11 set

Just ripping my copy now, "Running The Family" is utter quality!

phat old skool jungles breaks with some wonderful touches. my particular favourite is the sampled gunshots, although, arguably, it is the manically timestretched vocal loop that makes this remix such a classic.
