Janice Weber (born 1950) is an American pianist and author. Born in New Jersey, Weber was a precocious musical talent, making her debut at age 12 with the orchestra at New York's Town Hall. She studied with a number of teachers and musicians, such as Cecile Genhart, Walter Hendel, José Echániz, and Eugene List. Weber graduated summa cum laude from the Eastman School of Music, where she studied with Cécile Genhart and Eugene List.
Vienna, the waltz and the Strauss family are inseparable entities. The waltzes of Johann Strauss, Sr. (1804-1849) evoked the air of the Viennese countryside, beer gardens and Heurigen. Those of his eldest son, Johann, J. at first had the same rhythmic vitality and brief melodies. After 1860, however, this would change. The younger Strauss infused the traditional waltz format with a new vitality and sophistication that reflected the glittery, hedonistic spirit of nineteenth century imperial Vienna
Strauss J: Waltz Transcri. has been added to your Cart. Beautifully played piano transcriptions of familiar waltzes. The first, from Die Fledermaus, opulent and expressive with a symphonic range of dynamics, we were fortunate to hear as an encore to Buchbinder's performance of Beethoven's 3rd concerto, so we were looking exactly for this performance. The others are just as wonderfully played, and in some way I prefer the intimacy and delicacy of the piano transcriptions more than the (sometimes heavy) orchestral performances.
Given the acknowledgement to Strauss in the title, the composer is listed on the programme, simply and correctly, as ‘Godowsky’-discographers please note. Wein, Weib und Gesang (‘Wine, Woman and Song’) is Strauss’s Op 333 and, like The Blue Danube, was originally a choral waltz commissioned by the Vienna Men’s Choral Society, though both are seldom heard in this form. Other albums featuring this work.
Rudolf Buchbinder, Album. Strauss, Johann II : Waltz Transcriptions for Piano. Other albums by Rudolf Buchbinder. Brahms, Beethoven: Clarinet Trios. Brahms: Piano Concerto No. 1; Ballades, Op. 10.

She is heard in Messiaen's Quartet for the End of Time on Ongaku Records and her newest disc, Cascade of Roses (Dorian Sono Luminus),features works of 21 composers from Adolf Jensen to Billy Mayerl. Janice Weber is a member of the piano faculty at the Boston Conservatory and the Boston Conservatory Chamber Players.
