According to the Bambara people in Mali, the name of the djembe comes from the saying "Anke djé, anke bé" which translates to "everyone gather together in peace" and defines the drum's purpose.
Djembe history is a rich and diverse subject, but it can be difficult to verify. Where does the djembe drum come from? We don't know the drum's exact origins, but historians agree that it was invented by the Mandinka (or Maninke) people of western Africa in around 1300 AD. At the time King Sundiata ruled over the Mandinka people and the people widely celebrated him as a hero.
Like the echo of a drum, the Djembé collection is designed for repetition, creating musical compositions of light on the ceiling. Djembé is a lamp designed for use in public spaces that seeks to bring beauty and an unbeatable quality of light.
