With Marcia Griffiths name duly cemented in reggae history, a Queen stands among the greats. The indelible soulful artist with the haunting distinctive voice has once again gifted music lovers with the release of her 16th album aptly titled Timeless. Produced by renowned Donovan Germain and award-winning executive producers Tad A. Dawkins and Tad A. Dawkins Jnr, the 15 songs offering pays tribute to a beloved era and the endurance of the Studio One label catalog which boasts the most solid collection of foundation songs in the historic art forms of Ska, Rocksteady and Reggae music. Timeless speaks for itself – from then until now; working on this album was refreshing and filled with fun memories of early Studio One days when those songs were being recorded.
Marcia Llyneth Griffiths was born in Kingston, Jamaica on November 23, 1949 (though Griffiths has sometimes told journalists she was born in 1953). She displayed an interest in music early on, singing in the church choir and regularly taking part in musical presentations at school, and she made her first steps toward a professional career when she was 15. Griffiths was singing at a friend's party when she was overheard by Phillip "Boasie" James, a member of the vocal group the Blues Busters, who was visiting his girlfriend next door. Bob and Marcia hit the charts again in 1971 with "The Pied Piper," but in 1974 the duo parted ways and Griffiths released her second solo album, Sweet Bitter Love. In 1974, after Peter Tosh and Bunny Livingston left the Wailers, Bob Marley wanted to fill out the vocal sound of the group, and added a trio of female singers to the Wailers' lineup.

Marcia Griffiths and Friends is also absent of any of her late-'60s and early-'70s material, focusing on the higher-fidelity production and more R&B-tinged later recordings. Fans of contemporary reggae will find much to love in this weighty collection, but those enamored with Griffiths' stormier early work might miss the moody production and more organic rhythm tracks.
