There would have been nothin’ left to do For someone less astute He woulda been dead or destitute Without a cent of restitution Started workin', clerkin' for his late mother's landlord Tradin’ sugar cane and rum and all the things he can’t afford Scammin' for every book he can get his hands on Plannin' for th. In New York you can be a new man (Just you wait) In New York you can be a new man (Just you wait) In New York you can be a new man In New York, New York Just you wait! Alexander Hamilton (Alexander Hamilton) We are waiting in the wings for you (waiting in the wings for you) You could never back down You never learned to take your time! Oh, Alexander Hamilton (Alexander Hamilton) When America sings for you Will they know what you overcame? Will they know you rewrote the game?
There’s something to be said for having a boss. The Boss pinched the title of an old crooners’ standard to write his own classic, the finest single from his massive Born in the USA album in 1984. Bursting with ambition, frustration and sex, Dancing in the Dark is also Springsteen’s dance-floor peak, with a typically stunning sax solo by the late Clarence Clemons to top it all off. And there aren’t many songs from the era that come with an important warning about fire safety in the chorus.
Waking up knowing there’s a reason All my dreams come alive Life is for living with You I’ve made my decision. You lift me up, fill my eyes with wonder Forever young in Your love This freedom’s untainted with You No moment is wasted. See the sun now bursting through the clouds Black and white turn to colour all around All is new, in the Saviour I am found This is living now. You take me higher than I’ve been before It’s Your perfect love that sees me soar God Your freedom is an open door You are everything I want and more.
But I think there's a danger to it as well. Nobody owes me a living and if I'm going to spend someone's money, I want to be able to give it back to them. Obviously it would be nice to go on holiday a bit more often and not be worrying about money, but I have this whole theory that when people get too comfortable, they become rarefied. If you have a computer and a degree, you're already in the top 1% of the planet, so why should I get to float around without having to earn a living? I want to earn my stripes. I don't want anyone to say, 'You don't. And there is an added advantage to getting out and working in the real world. Although the romantic notion of a penniless artist living in a garret has plenty of cultural precedence, it does leave said artist without much in the way of day-to-day inspiration (plus, they almost always end up addicted to absinthe or dying of consumption).

You lead the way, God You're right beside me In Your love I'm complete There's nothing like living with You This life You created, I choose.
A good yardstick by which self-improvement books should be measured. In this generation-defining self-help guide, a superstar blogger shows us that the key to being happier is to stop trying to be positive all the time and instead to become better at handling adversity. For decades we’ve been told that positive thinking is the key to a happy, rich life. But those days are over. Fuck positivity, Mark Manson says. Trust me, there's nothing subtle about it! It's a shame, there are important things to read here but the overuse of particular words and phrases is both tedious and mind numbing. A broader vocabulary and a less aggressive style would improve matters immeasurably.
