Drummer Jack DeJohnette's New Directions tended to promise much more than it delivered. The quartet (comprised of the leader on drums and piano, trumpeter Lester Bowie, guitarist John Abercrombie and bassist Eddie Gomez) was certainly full of talent but their performances often rambled excessively before finding its purpose.

New Directions in Europe is a live album by Jack DeJohnette featuring Lester Bowie, John Abercrombie and Eddie Gómez recorded in 1979 and released on the ECM label in 1980. All compositions by Jack DeJohnette except as indicated. Salsa for Eddie . - 16:05. Where or Wayne" - 12:33. Bayou Fever" - 18:24. Multo Spiliagio" (Abercrombie, Bowie, DeJohnette, Gomez) - 9:33.

New Directions (a quartet with Jack DeJohnette on drums and piano, guitarist John Abercrombie, trumpeter Lester Bowie and bassist Eddie Gomez) is a group that never seemed to live up to its potential. On this set of three DeJohnette compositions (including the wittily titled "Where or Wayne") and two group improvisations, the music is a bit dull, making too much use of space and featuring less of Bowie's trumpet and wit than one would hope.

Gary Burton "Ring" is a very close second (more mellower, cerebral) (My opinion only not subject to interpretation). There is a 100% chance you would disagree anyways. I think one of the few times you would get 2 people to agree would be Miles Davis "Kind of Blue" LP (as that is one hell of an album). Reply Notify me Helpful.
