Häive, as aforementioned, are a hybrid act, blending both black and folk genres into one. This is done by several varied means, from the use of enchanting clean vocals which are used sparsely and conjure up images of Scandinavian folklore and the beauty of nature, to the sublime inclusion of instruments like the Kantele, or Kannel as it is sometimes known. On top of this, Häive also include a mouth harp, or harmonica into the mix. The inclusion of such instruments into the black metal fray instantly makes this an interesting and intriguing band. The traditional black metal elements aren’t always far from the fray, either. The rasping vocals and the often aggressive double bass on percussion allows the audience to view a different side to Häive, showing that this band are by no means a one trick pony.
