Pantera - Vulgar Display Of Power (1992).
Vulgar Display of Power is the sixth studio album by the American heavy metal band Pantera, released on February 25, 1992. Released on Atco Records, it is often considered one of the most influential heavy metal albums of the 1990s. Several of its tracks have become among the band's best known, such as "Mouth for War", "A New Level", "Walk", "Fucking Hostile", and "No Good (Attack the Radical)".
The Best of Pantera: Far Beyond the Great Southern Cowboys' Vulgar Hits! is a compilation album by the heavy metal band Pantera, released on September 23, 2003, two months before their breakup. The title of the compilation is a combination of the titles of their first four major label albums. The compilation includes an audio CD of fifteen previously released tracks and one previously unreleased track, plus a DVD with twelve music videos, two of them live
Vulgar Display of Power. Pantera Format: Audio Cassette. Vulgar Display Of Power. There's no doubt the significance of this album and what it did to the metal world when it was released in 1992. The front cover art alone can almost sum up what this album and what this band represents. Pantera changed the game on what could be done while at the same time keeping the metal alive and well in the midst of the alternative/grunge revolution. First off, the remaster, overall, is an improvement over the original.
Vulgar Display of Power is the album where the cowboys became thug wannabes; the songs are dominated by a very abhorrent mob mentality, similar to a crowd of busybodies loitering in a ghetto street corner. That isn’t the most noxious aspect of the album though, but the virtual abandonment of the previous record’s standards of songcraft were all flushed down the pooper with this release. Cowboys From Hell was practically a metal album that was still firmly rooted in traditional heavy metal. Vulgar Display is a sort of experimental album where the band members try their hand at something new and completely different; I consider this album as a necessary evil to pave the way for their groove opus, Far Beyond Driven, in that they took the junk that was on this album and alchemically transmuted it into heavy metal gold later on FBD.
Vulgar Display of Power is one of the most important and influential metal records of the 90's. Arguably Pantera's masterpiece, this record is THE example of groove metal. Any groove record during that era was using this album as a guide. Even the classics like Machine Head's Burn My Eyes and Sepultura's Chaos . were following this album. Hell, even Pantera's own Far Beyond Driven record used Vulgar Display of Power as a blueprint. This album is just a masterpiece. The entire album follows this formula: kick the song off with a killer groove, bring in an instantly memorable chorus while never straying from the groove, then hit the listener with an incredible solo courtesy of Dime, before letting the groove return. Really, the only times the album doesn't follow this winning pattern are for the excellent tracks, the eerily jazz oriented "This Love", and the classic ballad with a twist, "Hollow".
