The Boys of the Lough is a Scottish-Irish Celtic music band active since the 1970s. Their first album, called Boys of the Lough (1972) consisted of Aly Bain (fiddle), Cathal McConnell (flute), Dick Gaughan (vocals and guitar) and Robin Morton (bodhran and vocals). Since the 1960s the Forrest Hill Bar in Edinburgh had been a centre for folk singers and instrumentalists.

Aly Bain (fiddle), Cathal McConnell (flute, whistle, vocals), Dave Richardson (concertina, mandolin, cittern), Tich Richardson (guitar), with Len Graham (vocals, bodhrán), Martin O'Connor (accordion). Each Irish tune on this album was identified after a careful, expert comparison of this recorded performance against all other tunes in the Irish Traditional Music Tune Index. The blue column shows just the most established tune title. I play 0 of the tunes on this album.
The Boys of the Lough recorded this album in 1980, and it was the first one they made with Tich Richardson on guitar. I’m not sure if it’s ever been released on CD. Also on this recording are Martin O’Connor (tracks 6 & 7) and Len Graham (bodhran on track 5, singing on track 11). I like a lot of the playing on here (how can you cannot like Cathal McConnel and Aly Bain?), but Dave Richardson’s contribution stands out especially on this record. The final set is made up of two reels that Cathal McConnel got from Tommy Peoples
