Adult contemporary music (AC) is a North American term used to describe a form of radio-played popular music, ranging from 1960s vocal and 1970s soft rock music to predominantly ballad-heavy music of the present day, with varying degrees of easy listening, pop, soul, rhythm and blues, quiet storm, and rock influence.

Adult contemporary is essentially a continuation of the soft rock style that became popular in the '70s, with a few adjustments that reflect the evolution of pop-music production techniques. Adult contemporary has the same lush, soothing, highly polished qualities as soft rock, and it works the same "middle of the road" territory - in other words, it largely lacks the grit of even the slicker varieties of rock or soul music, but it's too indebted to those original sources to qualify as traditional pop or easy listening

Adult contemporary music became one of the most popular radio formats of the 1980s. The growth of AC was a natural result of the generation that first listened to the more "specialized" music of the mid-late 1970s growing older and not being interested in the heavy metal and rap/hip-hop music that a new generation helped to play a significant role in the Top 40 charts by the end of the decade  . Hot adult contemporary radio stations play a wide range of popular music that appeals towards the 18-54 age group, cherry-picking uptempo songs from pop, pop rock, alternative, and indie rock genres, while excluding more youth-oriented music such as hip-hop.

The Juno Award for Adult Contemporary Album of the Year is an annual award presented by the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS) for the best adult contemporary album released in Canada. It was first awarded at the 42nd Juno Awards ceremonies in 2013.
