Rock the Boat" is a song by American trio The Hues Corporation, written by Wally Holmes.

Rock the Boat was featured on the Hues Corporation’s debut album Freedom for the Stallion. Hues Corporation member St. Clair Lee said that the song was a song you could do anything on. You could cuddle or you could get crazy if you wanted to. It was a love song without being a love song, but it was a disco hit and it happened because of the discos

Rock The Boat, which Hughes wrote in 15 minutes, was originally an album track on Freedom For The Stallion, the excellently titled LP that the Hues Corporation released in 1973. It’s a gloriously dumb song, a song-length metaphor about a relationship as an ocean voyage: Our love is like a ship on the ocean, We’ve been sailing with a cargo full of love and devotion. Everyone involved in Rock The Boat was shocked to learn it had caught on in these New York gay-club circles.

So I'd like to know where, you got the notion Said I'd like to know where, you got the notion (To rock the boat), don't rock the boat baby (Rock the boat), don't tip the boat over (Rock the boat), don't rock the boat baby (Rock the boat) Ever since our voyage. of love began Your touch has thrilled me like the rush of the wind And your arms have held me safe from a rolling sea There's always been a quiet place to harbor you and me Our love is like a ship on the ocean We've been sailing with a cargo full of love and devotion So I'd like to.

The Hues Corporation’s big break came in 1972 when they were invited to record three songs for the soundtrack of the blaxploitation film Blacula: There He Is Again, What the World Knows, and I’m Gonna Catch You. Through their work in the film, the Hues Corporation signed a recording deal with RCA Victor. They released their first single on that label, Freedom for the Stallion, written by renowned artist Allen Toussaint. The single was also the title track of the band’s first LP, released in 1973. The success of Rock the Boat brought the album Freedom for the Stallion to on the Billboard 200 album chart, and on the Billboard black albums chart. In 1974 the Hues Coporation released their sophomore effort Rockin’ Soul, which featured its title track as a single.
