The Colosseum or Coliseum (/kɒləˈsiːəm/ kol-ə-SEE-əm), also known as the Flavian Amphitheatre (Latin: Amphitheatrum Flavium; Italian: Anfiteatro Flavio or Colosseo ), is an oval amphitheatre in the centre of the city of Rome, Italy. Built of travertine, tuff, and brick-faced concrete, it is the largest amphitheatre ever built. The Colosseum is situated just east of the Roman Forum

On this walking tour of Ancient Rome, you’ll explore the amphitheater’s first and second levels with a guide, who entertains you with tales of gruesome gladiator battles. Then visit the Roman Forum to see its ancient ruins like the Temple of Julius Caesar. This tour is limited to 25 people. If you want to enhance your experience, upgrade to a tour of the Colosseum’s restricted underground chambers, arena and upper tier. Skip the line outside the Colosseum with your priority-entrance ticket. Learn all about the gladiators and the emperors who decided their fates. We really enjoyed our tour and learnt a lot in the history of the colosseum. I would definitely recommend this tour company.

Thank you! ww. aypal. Take a virtual walk in 4K through one of the most iconic landmarks in the world, The Colosseum. Background: The Colosseum or Flavian Amphitheater is an amphitheater built during the time of Roman Empire in Rome, Italy. It is widely believed that Colosseum was the biggest and grandest amphitheater in the entire Roman Empire. It could house around eighty thousand spectators. Colosseum was built by the first Flavian emperor, Vespasian. The construction started in 70 BC and did not finish during Vespasian’s reign. History: The Colosseum was built after Roman victory in the First Roman-Jewish war. The construction was funded by the spoils of the war, specially from the Jewish Temple after the decisive Siege of Jerusalem. The amphitheater was named Flavian Amphitheater but was popularly known as The Colosseum, owing to its close proximity to the famous Colossus of Nero. Structure: Colosseum is built of stones and concrete.
