Unexpected and striking. Translated from Portuguese, the title is Imaginary Landscapes. This is one of many experiments released by Jamal Moss on a limited edition CD-R, all of which have a unique tone and feel though most tend towards the noisier or mechanized. This one begins with a free, wide-open feel. Composed mainly of altered vocal samples, there's a textural din in the foreground. While most of Moss's compositions are those I feel physically, the first four tracks of this one isolates you in a quiet place. At least until the fifth track, whose acid squelches rip through you and at that point, we're onto the wobbly, noisy side of Moss which culminates in the sixth track of pure noise. He gets a nice groove going on the seventh piece, with its minimal, improvisational stabs and undulating synth. Track 8 steps up the groove more with Moss flying around on the keys over some low-end chords. Track 10 will be familiar to those who've heard the Imaginary Soundscapes album - it's sick. Bouncing rubber band low end and queasy high end drops rolling over them.
