Black Panties is the twelfth studio album by American R&B singer R. Kelly. It was released in the United States on December 6, 2013, by RCA Records. The album features guest appearances from Ludacris, 2 Chainz, Young Jeezy, Migos, Kelly Rowland, Juicy J and Future. Black Panties, as says Kelly, "is the new 12 Play (1993)", and that it is different from his previous albums Love Letter (2010) and Write Me Back (2012)
Black Panties was inspired by - you guessed it - a swarm of panties being thrown at R. Kelly during a concert. I was on stage doing my Love Letter tour and I broke down into "Seems Like You're Ready," Kelly told VIBE. So I start singing (the line) "Temperatures rising" and here come the panties. It was all different colors but then this one particular pair of panties-they were black and medium-landed on my mic and my wrist, and immediately I said, that's a sign. I gotta go back and write a song called 'Black Panties
All the material is slow and mostly pared down, made to maximize space for his still generous supply of hooks and outlandish lines. However, it's sleepy more often than it is seductive - ironically less youthful than his two previous albums.

But some changes were made to the album. It was released on December 6 2013. Kelly said that this album is different from his previous albums Love Letter and Write Me Back.
Black Panties is his second best album title after 12 Play; most of the others, not the albums but their titles, are rather atrocious; but, while I’m glad he’s returned to the role of raunchy sex maniac after going retro romantic for the last two, it continues the run of mediocrity that began with TP3. His releases were consistently pleasing until then; especially the R one, which could easily have been a classic if it were condensed down to, say, the best twelve songs. This one has twelve, plus the aforementioned Prelude, but none really come close to matching the quality of his best work
