Robert Ward (October 15, 1938 – December 25, 2008) was an American blues and soul guitarist. He was known for founding the Ohio Untouchables, the band that later would become the Ohio Players. He played the guitar with a unique tone soaked in vibrato coming from a Magnatone amplifier. Born Robert Jeryl Ward in Luthersville, Georgia, he moved to Dayton, Ohio in 1960 and formed the Ohio Untouchables

Disappointing sequel to Ward's magnificent first Black Top disc - his vocals don't sound nearly as hearty this time around, and a some of the songs just aren't up to par ("All Proud Races" is downright stupid). There's a taste of gospel in "What a Friend We Have in Jesus," Ward's own take on "I Found a Love," and a steamy remake of James Brown's "And I Do Just What I Want.

Soul guitarist whose comeback album brought him acclaim. Ward's 1990 debut album Fear No Evil immediately won critical acclaim. His following Black Top albums, Rhythm of the People (1993) and Black Bottom (1995), failed to match his debut, yet he proved a popular live performer. The CD compilation Hot Stuff (1995) gathered all Ward's Ohio Untouchable and Falcons recordings. Ward regularly performed in Britain in the 1990s, often with backing vocals from his second wife, Roberta

Rhythm of the People Robert Ward. Rhythm of the People . ard, Robert. What A Friend We Have In Jesus by Robert Ward on Rhythm Of The People.

Ward's first taste of stardom came as leader of the Ohio Untouchables (who later mutated into the Ohio Players long after Ward's departure) during the early '60s. Born into impoverished circumstances in rural Georgia, Ward had picked up his first guitar at age ten. Singles by Sister Rosetta Tharpe, . King, and Muddy Waters left their mark on the youth. After a stint in the Army, Ward came home in 1959 and joined his first band, the Brassettes (who also included Roy Lee Johnson, soon to join Piano Red's band and croon Mister Moonlight). Living in tiny Dry Branch, Georgia, with his second wife, Roberta, who contributed background vocals to his encore album, Ward resurfaced in 1997 with Twiggs County Soul Man, followed three years later by New Role Soul.

Robert Cray Teams with Hi Rhythm and Steve Jordan for Memphis Soul Album Out April 28 on Jay-Vee Records. Steve Jordan is proud to announce the signing of Robert Cray to Jay-Vee Records, the label he and Meegan Voss founded in 2010. Produced by Jordan, Robert Cray & Hi Rhythm will be released in Spring, 2017. The signing of Robert Cray to Jay-Vee Records is a milestone for Meegan and me, says Jordan, who first worked with Cray in 1996 on the Grammy winning album, Take Your Shoes Off. Robert is one of the greatest artists of this generation. People gravitate to his guitar playing first, but I think he’s one of the best singers I’ve heard in my life. Not only because of his singing ability, but his interpretations.

Rhythm of the People.
