The Pearl is an album by ambient musicians Harold Budd and Brian Eno, which was released in 1984. This album is similar to Budd and Eno's previous collaboration Ambient 2: The Plateaux of Mirror, consisting mostly of subtly treated piano textures, but this time with more pronounced electronic treatments and nature recordings.

The second in Brian Eno's ambient series, The Plateaux of Mirrors fuses the fragile piano melodies of Harold Budd and the atmospheric electronics of Eno to create a lovely, evocative work. In sharp contrast to the exaggerated pieces found on his debut, The Pavilion of Dreams, this record finds Budd delivering sharp shards of piano notes pregnant with meaning and minimal in the best sense of the word. The album's best moments evoke their subject matter efficaciously and effortlessly; "First Light" creates an audible early morning chill, "An Arc of Doves" employs flights of Frippertronics, "Not Yet Remembered" seesaws between sleep and consciousness, and so on. Although neither artist is a musician in the usual sense of the word - Budd's piano playing is still somewhat limited here - they excel as musical painters.

Harold Budd will make another album in the future with Brian Eno, The Pearl, one that will reach the same valences of great, impeccable, impressive side of imagination and of perception. Overall the two statements that exist, but most importantly Plateux Of Mirror, denote how Budd is an important artist among the collaborators or the musical friends of Brian Eno (at how euphorically great the works done with Budd, I would certainly place him among Fripp, among Bryne, among such that emit, in a modest way, attention and applauds). The Plateaux of Mirror, compared to Harold Budd's debut effort, is much more stripped down, composed almost entirely of acoustic/electric piano with Brian Eno providing dreamy treatments to round off all of the edges.
