Since Madonna had the same name as her mother, family members called her "Little Nonni". The album's title track served as its first single, and topped the Hot 100 chart for six consecutive weeks. It attracted the attention of conservative organizations who complained that the song and its accompanying video promoted premarital sex and undermined family values, and moralists sought to have the song and video banned. Madonna co-wrote and co-produced Like a Prayer with Patrick Leonard, Stephen Bray, and Prince. Music critic J. D. Considine from Rolling Stone hailed the album "as close to art as pop music gets. proof not only that Madonna should be taken seriously as an artist but that hers is one of the most compelling voices of the Eighties.
His first album, Songs of Leonard Cohen (1967), was followed by three more albums of folk music: Songs from a Room (1969), Songs of Love and Hate (1971) and New Skin for the Old Ceremony (1974). His 1977 record Death of a Ladies' Man was co-written and produced by Phil Spector, which was a move away from Cohen's previous minimalist sound. Leonard Cohen was born into a middle-class Jewish family in Westmount, Quebec, on September 21, 1934. The family observed Orthodox Judaism, and belonged to Congregation Shaar Hashomayim, to which Cohen retained connections for the rest of his life. Today’s entry focuses not on the communion but the pilgrimage – and a small act of graciousness. See You Down The Road – Trailblazing From Mount Baldy To Mid-town Los Angeles. Consequently, our drive from there to Leonard Cohen’s home was one the Rock Yoda2 has himself made many times. One suspects, however, that his trips have lacked the drama of our initial amble down that particular yellow brick road.
Sometimes, all three at once: If thine is the glory, then mine is the shame, he murmurs in You Want It Darker, an epistle to the big man upstairs in which all parties are party to the wretchedness of life. I struggled with some demons, they were middle-class and tame, he concedes, adding grimly, I didn’t know I had permission to murder and to maim. Since Artpop, Lady Gaga’s musical career has tended towards retrenchment. The Cheek To Cheek duets album with Tony Bennett established her credentials as a proper singer; and now this Mark Ronson-co-produced effort effectively abandons the electropop dance arrangements of Artpop in favour of more stolidly rockist fare, as if pursuing rock’n’roll authenticity.
Leonard Bernstein was a charismatic and versatile musician―a brilliant conductor who attained international super-star status.
