Percy Tyrone Sledge (November 25, 1941 – April 14, 2015) was an American R&B, soul and gospel singer. He is best known for the song "When a Man Loves a Woman", a No. 1 hit on both the Billboard Hot 100 and R&B singles charts in 1966. It was awarded a million-selling, Gold-certified disc from the RIAA.
Percy Sledge (born 25 November 1941 in Leighton, Alabama; died 14 April 2015 in Baton Rouge) was an American R&B and soul performer who most notably recorded the single "When a Man Loves a Woman" in 1966, an international top 40 hit that the RIAA has certified as gold.
This nice, 12-song budget reissue of Percy's vinyl album for Atlantic features the hits "When a Man Loves a Woman," "Take Time to Know Her," and "It Tears Me Up," along with interesting covers like "The Dark End of the Street" and "Just Out of Reach.
