Rael heard Page on the radio and liked her voice. Rael asked her to join the band he managed, the "Jimmy Joy Band" Page toured the country with the "Jimmy Joy Band" in 1946. It was originally recorded by Page for a children's album, "Arfie Goes To School". She had a series of Top 20 hits that year. A final single reached the Top 5, "Changing Partners", which peaked at No. 3 and stayed on the charts for five months In 1954, Page had more chart hits, including "Cross Over the Bridge", which again over-dubbed Page's vocals and peaked at No. 2. Album This Is My Song. Cross Over the Bridge Lyrics. If you're a guy that's had a gal in each and every port And you've forgot the rules of love that life has always taught And if you broke as many hearts as ripples in a stream Well, brother, here's the only way that you can be redeemed. Cross over the bridge, cross over the bridge Change your reckless way o'livin', cross over the bridge Leave you fickle past behind you and true romance will find you Brother, cross over the bridge
Patti Page sings "My Restless Lover" (aka "Johnny Guitar") in this live TV performance from 1954. It was the "B" side of Patti's million-selling "Cross Over the Bridge," but has since become one of her best-loved recordings in its own right. Thanks Larry Jordan for all the great work you did on this new Patti Page CD collection, which augments 27 rare tracks with augmented musicians, creating new stereo recordings in brilliant sound. I was happy to do the liner notes.

Page was discovered by Jack Rael, a band leader who was making a stop in Tulsa in 1946 when he heard Page sing on the radio. Rael called KTUL asking where the broadcast originated. When told that Page was a local singer, he quickly arranged an interview and abandoned his career to be Page's manager. Page and Rael got hold of Tennessee Waltz, convinced that a pop artist could make a smash hit out of it. Mercury agreed to put it on the B-side of the Christmas song. Mercury wanted to concentrate on a Christmas song and they didn't want anything with much merit on the flip side," Page said. They didn't want any disc jockeys to turn the Christmas record over. The title of that great Christmas song was Boogie Woogie Santa Claus, and no one ever heard of i. Tennessee Waltz became the first pop tune that crossed over into a big country hit.
