The Drawbar Organ EPs. 2-1. (For The) Love Of Weeping. Whereas Fabric 55 was the culmination of Shackleton's work on the dancefloor, this album represents an evolution in his music beyond the bass-heavy rhythms of his prior work. The production quality is well beyond anything released by his dubstep/techno contemporaries and it's an almost certain classic.

The three 12"s - mirroring his 3 EPs album from a couple of years ago - are gathered under the name The Drawbar Organ EPs. They're still rooted in the same hyper-percussive, fast and texturally overwhelming dance music that made his name, but like some of his recent sets they're stained far brighter hues than normal, featuring thick bursts of organ and fluttering, flute-like synth figures. The CD is entitled Music For The Quiet Hour and is largely beatless, featuring ominous spoken word from Shackleton's friend and collaborator Vengeance Tenfold (who also appeared on classic Shack cuts like 'Death Is Not Final'). The tracklist for The Drawbar Organ EPs runs as follows

6.

Continuing to mystify audiences with ethereal, oft-experimental electronic music, Shackleton delivers one of the finest jewels of 2012.

Sam Shackleton is one of those artists who could follow his muse down almost any path as lengthy and meandering as his basslines, and run into accolades at every stop. The first aspect of the box concerns those three slabs of vinyl, the Drawbar Organ EPs-a collection of rumbling hymns to made-up deities and ancient arbiters. Splattered with sonorous tones from the cheap electric organ that he acquired during the writing of his Three EPs release for Perlon, the titular instrument is their defining feature. Layered in uneven formations on "Powerplant" or melodic and even taunting on "(for the) Love of Weeping," it's Shackleton's own demented circus of charred corpses and reanimated figures.

The Drawbar Organ EPs, by contrast, are Shackleton to a T. Over the three discs, the producer continues on the journey he first began with 2004’s ‘Stalker’ 12 7″: making koanlike dance music with an emphasis on the high-end, the low-end, and little in between. From opener ‘For The Love Of Weeping’ through to set closer ‘There Is A Place For Us’, Shackleton continues to refine his curious craft. The major development is the introduction of the titular ‘drawbar organ’ into his sound. For someone so used to delicate textures, Shackleton’s playing is sometimes oddly heavy-handed.

In 2012, Shackleton's third album, Music for the Quiet Hour, The Drawbar Organ EPs, was released on Woe to the Septic Heart!, once again featuring a collaboration with Vengeance Tenfold providing spoken word vocals. Shackleton's musical style includes a variety of genres such as dubstep, garage, and techno. It has been noted for its "intense atmospheric gloom" and sense of "tension and paranoia".

It's non rythmic. it's a bit heavy on the high end for my preferences, it's electronic neo classical sound collage, or freeform synth experimentation, so no grooves and musician partitions... it has a kind of random chatter and hum quality on it. it's unnerving for me as if to pick up my attention, without placing my attention onto some kind of exciting sounds. The synth pads are not new or amazing to me, nor are the samples chosen. It's difficult to rate a electronic neo classical freeform audio collage, i prefer if i can be entranced by some kind of atonal or frequency based patterns, there arent clear discernable patterns here, I'll have to listen to it some more, but at first view it really qualifies as something i would find unpleasant to play loud more than 5-10 minutes, it's interesting in that time if i can turn the treble down. Mostly it hasn't got epic bass and sub-bass synth or acoustic and otherworldly samples of a powerful and original kind. I'll check it some more because of the reviews, but i don't like it.

This music requires attention and multiple listens. It is complex and infectious masterfully crafted experimental electronic music. If you are not familiar with the world of Shackleton, it may take a bit of getting used to. The music is bizarre and unnerving and defies categorization. The cover art and the music have an infectious, uncanny similarity. That said, there are some of the most bad ass grooves you've ever heard. Track 5 Test Tubes is epic. You haven't really heard this music until you've listed through good headphones or on a full range stereo system. Highly recommended to those with more evolved tastes for electronic music.

I first heard this through earphones working late on my own in a large open-plan office, an experience I will never forget. Can't name too many other albums that left such an indelible mark on first listen. Incredible.

This is soo bad boy. Having revisited after some time off nothing much has come close since????

This is absolutely magnificent. Put it on in the background, relax, and let it take you on the journey.

Quantum leap for Shackleton. After an astounding row of great releases, this is probably his most focused and compelling to date. Sixty minutes which should be listened to carefully and continuously, as they're designed to provide a full, inmersive experience. We're not talking about music anymore, this is far beyond that point. A truly work of art. And the beats are sick as f***.

An astounding album. Musicality, tension, bass weight, production skill all combine to brilliant effect here. A mature and accomplished album; I can't wait to hear these tracks out, LOUD!
