Nitin Sawhney CBE (born 1964) is a British Indian musician, producer and composer. A recipient of the Ivor Novello Lifetime Achievement award in 2017, his work combines Asian and other worldwide influences with elements of jazz and electronica and often explores themes such as multiculturalism, politics, and spirituality. Sawhney is also active in the promotion of arts and cultural matters, and is a patron of numerous film festivals, venues, and educational institutions.

Prophesy sees Nitin Sawhney once again crafting a concept album. But unlike its subtle, pacifistic predecessor, Beyond Skin, Prophesy suffers from its concept to its execution. The very premise of the album is flawed; it's an overproduced, synthetic-sounding treatise against technology. Sawhney is certainly no Luddite, as every beat and lush string pattern is infused with computer trickery. Never has a concept album seemed so hypocritical at its very core. Getting past the weak concept, the music lacks the passion and energy of Beyond Skin.

Nitin Sawhney continues the explorations last heard in the masterful "Beyond Skin. For this album, he traveled the globe recording sounds and singers from Brazil, Africa, India, the UK, and elsewhere. Each of Sawhney's albums seems to concentrate on a particular theme, and this one is the isconnect in modern society and the role of technology. Nitin Sawhney is hardly the first to write and worry about the "desensitization" and the "simulated realities" brought on by technology, but unlike others, he has an answer: a thoughtful expression of sound that brings people together. On several levels Prophecy is a fascinating and important - - and highly underrated - - album for our time.
