How to Be a Lady: Volume 1 is the debut album of American R&B group Electrik Red, released May 26, 2009 on Radio Killa and Def Jam Recordings. Production and songwriting for the album was handled primarily by The-Dream and Christopher "Tricky" Stewart. How to Be a Lady is an R&B album that incorporates elements of electropop and hip hop, and contains lyrics concerning sexual and gender-related themes.

The main problem with Electrik Red's album is the lyrics - a lot of these songs are graphic & somewhat foul which probably made it difficult for some of the catchier songs to get airplay. The album was written & produced by Tricky & The Dream which absolutely lends cohesion to the overall sound and the effort isn't bad but it's a shame that the lyrics didn't lean more towards the clever as opposed to the vulgar. Electrik Red are a force to be reckoned with. But that aside it's one release of 2009 that you really shouldn't miss. One person found this helpful.

Electrik Red are like the bitter castoffs booted from a pre-fame Destiny’s Child (one of them is named Binkie!) that decided to team up, have a massive orgy with The-Dream, and then cook up the most ghettolicious, glorious heap of scrap tracks from Ciara‘s latest album and called it How To Be A Lady: Volume 1. Now, if there’s anything that I love in this world, it’s a girl with a potty mouth. Make that four girls with potty mouths! I’m talking ’bout some trash-talkin’, y’all-don’t-know-me type of shit–that’s why I listen to Khia for motivation and spiritual guidance

a Lady: Volume 1, which was released on May 26, 2009. The group explained the album title as a "play on the stereotype of what a lady is supposed to be, how she is supposed to act and what she is supposed to say. We're bringing a new age woman to the world  . Electrik Red began recording a second album in early 2010, though that album has not yet appeared. The group premiered a new track at the E World Awards in Atlanta, Georgia, on January 27, 2010, titled "I'm That Chick". On January 22, 2011, Electrik Red announced an upcoming European tour via Twitter.

Electrik Red's parentage is easy to trace, but they build on and push forward the traits they have inherited from previous generations of black female pop – the straight-talking righteousness of TLC, the eccentric adventurousness of Kelis, the aggressive sexuality of Lil' Kim – in such a way that their concerns seem totally fresh. How to Be a Lady is a riot sonically. Take Freaky Freaky, which erodes completely the distinction between club joint and slow jam: as that distinction crumbles, so too do the singers' defences amid swells of voluptuous synths and the tender sensuality of the lyrics.
