One of the main Long Plays of Whodini, for sure. The vocals from 'RAP Machine' ("Let me hear you say R.A.P. Machine!") were sampled years later by WestBam at his RAP Machine mix of 'The Roof Is On Fire'. The original track has very nice piano melodies with those traditional Hip Hop grooves. 'The Haunted House Of Rock' combines the amazing Hip Hop funky beats with awesome lines of synthesizers - but one of them in particular has a melody sequence very similar to a certain part of Depeche Mode's 'Everything Counts', released on the same year (1983). The question in this case is: which one was the influential? The main tune of the album, though, is ‘Magic’s Wand’ (with a line of keyboard sampled several times later by other artists, such as Silver Bullet in 'Bring Forth The Guillotine'), which tells a story about a woman having a ‘RAP Attack’. The main idea was to evoke the Street Dance culture of DJs, MCs and of course, to never forget that “It's all in Mr. Magic's Wand”…

Note the assistance of the able Mr. Thomas Dolby on both "Wand" tracks.

Recorded at CAN Studios, Cologne, Germany. Mixed at Conny Planks Studio. Who also produced, engineered and mixed "Rap Machine" and "Nasty Lady". At that date Whodine were Jalil Hutchins and Ecstasy. Seems that the German music legend Conny Plank ( may he rest in peace ) had a lot of street credibility at that time. Hey, did I mention that "Magic`s Wand", "Rap Machine" and "The Haunted House of Rock" are exceptional ? The Crown does not belong to Grandmaster Flash alone.
