The album is named after the Irish folk song "Dúlamán" which became a fan favourite at Clannad concerts. Dúlamán was recorded at Rockfield Studios in Wales and is their first album produced by Nicky Ryan. Moya Brennan described the album as "a fusion of various styles of music, growing out of a traditional Gaelic root. Banba has been described as one of Clannad's most visual albums, and has sold over 1 million copies to date. During the 2006 solo tour of Moya Brennan in The Netherlands, the concert in De Doelen, Rotterdam, was dedicated to Leo and Baba Brennan.
