Mayall rarely does the same album twice, and Wake Up Call finds him returning to a basic, physical sound after 1990's more progressive/highly produced A Sense of Place. The harp whiz has rarely flirted with the pop charts over the decades, a track record that will likely handicap the title track - a potential hit featuring guest vocalist Mavis Staples and some take-charge riffing from former mate Mick Taylor.

I believe John Mayall's "Wake up call" (1993) is the best blues album I have ever heard.

Eleven thirty wake up call Check up tim. ith this hours that I keep (?) Can’t get my sleep So don’t make my wake up call too soon until the wake up call. I wa. n the mornin. ow that morning seems so far away And my dreams are coming apart. Yes, my dreams just coming apart.

Looking Back is the seventh album released by John Mayall in August 1969 by Decca Records. The album features songs by both John Mayall's Bluesbreakers and John Mayall solo work. The album reached No. 79 on the Billboard 200. Confusingly, there are two different albums with the title "Looking Back": a Decca UK release as a single album (SKL 5010) and a Decca Germany (issued by TELDEC) release as a double album (DS 3104/1-2). Later issues on CD would use the Deram label.
