Zombie is a studio album by Nigerian Afrobeat musician Fela Kuti. It was released in Nigeria by Coconut Records in 1976, and in the United Kingdom by Creole Records in 1976. The album criticised the Nigerian government; and it is thought to have resulted in the murder of Kuti's mother Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti, and the destruction of his commune by the military.

26 Apr 2019- Fela Kuti was born Olufela Olusegun Oludotun Ransome-Kuti in Abeokuta, Nigeria, on Oct. 15, 1938, to Yoruba parents. He considered his original middle name, Ransome, to be a slave name and changed it to Anikulapo, which means "one who carries death in his pouch," in the '70s. The man that was known as the "Black President" - long before Barack Obama surfaced on the political scene.

I don't claim to know much about the ins and outs of mastering or anything but the music sounds great. One has a brief Bio about Fela and the rest have the track listing and about three paragraphs about each album (there is no track listing on the CDs themselves which is a bit of a bummer but whatever. There is also a DVD which I have not yet watched. Summary: For the price, this is THE best music purchases you could make, but you might also try shopping around, you can get it for even cheaper other places.

Even before his death in 1997, Fela Anikulapo Kuti was the stuff of legend as the creator of Afro-beat, and as a fierce political activist, outlaw, and outspoken voice for the oppressed not only in his native Nigeria, but throughout Africa. Though harassed, beaten, tortured, and imprisoned by his own country's oppressive military dictatorship, he could not be broken. Like Bob Marley's, Kuti's name has been synonymous with liberation. Since his passing he has even become the subject of a Broadway musical that bears his name and tours internationally. He is a bona fide folk hero.
