Kalthoum (2xLP, Album). 474 969 5. Ibrahim Maalouf. c vraiment pauvre en note, Maalouf sans rapport avec le Jazz. Méme la pop est plus riche que ces 2 opus de 2015. Je tombe de ma chaise. Reply See 1 reply Notify me Helpful.
Ibrahim Maalouf revisits this classic of arab music (tarab). Dhafer Youssef's music is really out of this world. Here's a transcendental interpretation of Wind and Shadows. Here's some background on the album: Um Kalthum (or Oum Kalthoum, with the french spelling used for the album) is the absolute diva of Arab music. Alf Layla wa Layla (1001 Nights) is one of her most famous 1h-long suites (1969). Ibrahim Maalouf revisits this classic of tarab music. In both the original and the jazz version, improvisations play a very important role. I strongly recommend this short video from NPR on Maalouf, his very special trumpet, microtonal music, and this fantastic album.

Bridging musical cultures comes naturally to the trumpeter and composer Ibrahim Maalouf. Born in Beirut and reared in Paris, he has earned wide acclaim for his work in the Western classical tradition, as well as in Arabic music, film music, jazz and rock. Throughout the Francophone world, and in parts of the Middle East, he operates on the scale of a global pop star. Mr. Maalouf plays a trumpet with four valves instead of three, which helps him articulate the quarter tones essential to a range of non-Western music
