Mott the Hoople is the debut studio album by the band of the same name. It was produced by Guy Stevens and released in 1969 by Island Records in the UK (cat. no. ILPS 9108), and in 1970 by Atlantic Records in the US (cat. SD 8258). It was subsequently re-released by Angel Air in 2003 (SJPCD157).
Mad Shadows isn't as festive and fun (nor as witty) as their critically acclaimed 1969 eponymous debut, but dig below the surface and you'll find an album of darker introspection with songs that get inside your head and work their magic after a few listens - especially the pensive ""No Wheels To Ride. Upon its original release in 1970, Mott the Hoople's sophomore album was panned as sophomoric by many a music critic. Mad Shadows noteworthy . This second album has some strong moments, and unlike their other long players, focuses completely on original material (although bit of the Stones and the Beatles show up), but along with a murky mix, this suffers from what plagued several of their albums, the inability to maintain the quality through both sides. Mott The Hoople- No Wheels to Ride (Studio Version) 5:55. Mott the Hoople - thunderbuck ram -(1970 - mad shadow). Mott The Hoople (1970) - Mad shadows - 05. I can feel.

It is often referred to as their darkest record, and after listening to Ian Hunter's haunting "When My Mind's Gone," you will understand why. The album is bookended by heavy rockers "Thunderbuck Ram" and the bonus track "How Long?" Psychedelic jams ("Threads of Iron") and country rock (the Mick Ralphs-penned and sung "It Would Be A Pleasure"), plus more hard rock ("Walking With a Mountain") await the listener between those two tracks . Mott the Hoople was one of the best in an era full of greats, (1969-1974) and this little CD called "Mad Shadows" is evidence of that in spades.
