Rudolf Kempe’s recordings of Richard Strauss have long been prized for their unparalleled clarity and subtlety in music that has come to define the late-Romantic temperament and its expression of highly strung emotions, whether in a state of Nietzschean exaltation, on the summits of Also sprach Zarathustra and the Alpine Symphony, or in the post-war despair of Metamorphosen

Richard Georg Strauss (German pronunciation: ; 11 June 1864 – 8 September 1949) was a leading German composer of the late Romantic and early modern eras.

Richard Strauss was, and remains, one of the defining figures of the late-Romantic era. - Rudolf Kempe's Strauss recordings have been highly prized since their initial release - The Moonlight Music excerpt from the opera 'Capriccio' is new to CD - Newly remastered from master tapes. This 2013 release contains the latest sonic facelift for these recordings, and they do sound noticeably better (read: less veiled) on quality headphones when compared to the 1999 green EMI box collection Strauss: Orchestral Works. I have not heard the 2008 Brilliant Classics release Richard Strauss: Orchestral Works, but presumably that was simply a re-release of the same remastering in the 1999 EMI box as is often the case with Brilliant Classics.

Conductor Rudolf Kempe) (2001) by Richard Strauss. This album has an average beat per minute of 84 BPM (slowest/fastest tempos: 76/99 BPM). Tracklist Also sprach Zarathursa (Staatskapelle Dresden feat. conductor Rudolf Kempe).

As Strauss’s descent nears its end and the music winds down, Wit manages a wonderful feeling of triste, a consciousness of danger experienced and triumphed over, and in that ‘Ausklang’ the organ steals in magically. Salome – Dance of the Seven Veils. Staatskapelle Dresden, Rudolf Kempe. EMI 918745-2 (157’ · ADD). A somewhat lightweight introduction apart, Kempe secures a performance of treasurable flexibility and comprehensive understanding. Richard Strauss’s Josephslegende (1914) is a truly extraordinary work. It was written for Diaghilev, who wanted something sensational to follow The Rite of Spring. But Nijinsky was unable to take the title-role planned for him, and it was the young Massine as substitute who had to dance what Nijinsky later described as ‘undanceable music’.
